Rare and unique Venetian art glass vase or bottle with a beautiful pulled feather fenicio design. Delicate gold gilt aventurine flecks cover the surface of this art glass vase complementing the blue and tortoise colored glass body. A clear glass bottom pedestal or foot with rich gold aventurine and pontil mark are visible underneath and testify as to the handmade nature of this exceptional art glass vase. The elegant shape and symmetrical proportions of this italian art glass bottle enhance the fenicio design. Ideal for the discerning collector of early 20th century art nouveau or art deco glass.
Fenicio also known as Ploomed, Festooned, or Feathered Glass, is one of the oldest decorative glass making techniques known to human civilization, having first been used by the ancient Phoenicians and Egyptians. In an effort to reproduce ancient glassware finds and bring back the skills known to ancient civilizations, Murano Glass artisans had searched for a method to create the distinctive colorful festooned decorations seen in many archeological finds. Finally, in the sixteenth or early seventeenth century these efforts ended in success.
