Very Old and Rare Japanese Pottery / Around the 10th Century / Wabi-Sabi Flower

About the Item

This is a hard earthenware called "sueki" in Japan. I believe this item was made around the 10th century. It is thought that it was probably excavated in the suburbs of Aomori Prefecture in Japan. Also, a detailed explanation of "sueki" is listed at the bottom. This shape is common to both Japanese and Korean pottery, but rugby ball-shaped pottery like this is more common in Japan. However, this kind of pottery is rarely unearthed, and it can be said that it is a rather rare form. It is thought that it was probably a container for storing liquor. In addition, since the same kind of product was published in the art book, the photograph is posted. In addition, the surface has a complicated pattern, but this is done by hitting with a small wooden board with an uneven surface in order to remove the air contained in the clay. By doing so, the air in the soil will escape and you can bake it without losing its shape. The pattern attached at that time will be like this. There is also a small comb mark on the neck, which is a unique pattern seen in earthenware excavated in Aomori Prefecture. I have included a photo of this similar comb stamped part because it was also published in the art book. All of the Sue ware are excavated items, so large ones are usually broken and unearthed. As you can see in the photo, it looks like a large fragment is glued together. However, since it is glued, there is no need to worry about it breaking unless you hit it hard. Please rest assured. Also, if you pour water directly into the pottery, it will leak. An old bamboo tube is also included, but if you put water directly into the bamboo, it will leak out, so put a plastic bottle in the bamboo tube, fill it with water, and decorate the flowers. "sueki" came to be called sueki because it started being made in sue village in Osaka. (ki = vessel) In the history of Japan, soft unglazed earthenware, which was fired at low temperatures, began to be fired at high temperatures from around the 4th century due to the development of kiln technology. Fired at a high temperature, the pottery becomes harder and less likely to crack. The color is light gray porcelain. This is a technique introduced from the Korean Peninsula. There is a design similar to the earthenware of the Korean Peninsula, Some of them are made by imitating Chinese bronze ware. Originating in Osaka, “sueki” has gradually been made all over Japan
