About the Item

This is a fired jar made in southern China or northern Laos or the surrounding area in the 15th to 17th century. Its unique shape has long been loved in Japan as a wabi-sabi flower vase for tea ceremony utensils, and many of these are well known as belongings of feudal lords, wealthy merchants, and wealthy farmers. It is said that this jar was originally made to be used as a bomb by putting gunpowder inside it. In addition, a similar item was featured in an art book, so a photo of it is included as a reference. For this reason, a large number of these were made at the time. And many of these jars that sank due to shipwrecks were later found during underwater surveys. This is one of the surviving jars that is well preserved and in good condition. The dark brown color is similar to the Japanese pottery called Bizen ware. And since it cannot stand on its own, a wooden base is included. This wooden base was also made specifically for this pottery, so it fits perfectly. The sculptor's name is engraved on the back. However, if you put water in it, it will leak out from the bottom, so if you want to put flowers in it, you should put in a bamboo tube or artificial flowers instead of fresh flowers. It is still very attractive and can be enjoyed as it is without putting flowers in it. A special storage box is included. Weight: 0.55 kg
