A late Victorian thorn vase in green art glass, likely produced in Czechoslovakia circa 1890s, attributed to the Kralik glassworks. The piece features a rounded, organic base that narrows into a slender neck, with the entire form encased in applied thorn-like protrusions—each individually manipulated by hand to create a tactile, botanical surface.
The rim is fitted with a hallmarked sterling silver collar, added in England upon import—typical of the period, when Bohemian glass was embellished for the British market. The marks are visible and legible, offering provenance and adding to its historical appeal.
This vase evokes stylistic parallels with the thorn glass designs of John Walsh Walsh, though the slightly looser, more fluid execution points towards Kralik’s interpretation of organic form—a hallmark of Art Nouveau glassmaking.
In very good antique condition: the glass is intact and free from damage; the silver collar shows some wear and irregularities, consistent with age and use. Height: 21 cm. Diameter at widest point: 8 cm.
