About the Item

Art pottery vase produced in 1933 by Watcombe Pottery, Torquay, England. The vase features a classic baluster form with a gently flared rim and dark glazed foot and lip, decorated with a hand-painted iris motif in rich purple tones with green foliage. The decoration is set against a warm cream ground with a finely crackled glaze, characteristic of Watcombe’s interwar production. The underside is impressed Watcombe Torquay and dated 1933, confirming period authenticity. This piece exemplifies the Arts Crafts–influenced naturalism and high level of hand craftsmanship for which Watcombe is well regarded.
