About the Item

A striking example of mid-century British ceramics, this modernist mantle vase was produced by Shorter Son in England during the 1950s. Its form—a curved, canoe-like vessel rising to finely pointed ends—offers a stylised reimagining of the classic mantle vase. Resting on a gently faceted hexagonal plinth, the body is punctuated with a symmetrical row of raised domes that catch light and shadow with architectural effect. Finished in a bone white soft satin glaze, the surface is both reflective and softly textured, drawing attention to the vase’s clean sculptural geometry. The overall composition is confident and minimal—a strong expression of British modernist ceramic design. The vase measures approximately 18 cm wide, 10.5 cm in height, and 7 cm in depth. It is offered in good vintage condition with no structural damage to the ceramic. Light water marking is visible to the interior, appropriate to age and use. The underside is embossed with the model number 687 alongside "Shorter Sons, Stoke-on-Trent, England" stamped in blue. A distinctive and refined decorative object—graphic, modern, and unmistakably mid-century in character.
