About the Item
Art Deco Glass Ashtray by Maurice Marinot, France, c. 1930s
An exceptional glass ashtray by Maurice Marinot (1882–1960), one of the most influential figures in early 20th-century French glassmaking. Dating from the Art Deco period, this piece exemplifies Marinot’s experimental approach to form, texture, and material.
Crafted from thick, hand-blown glass with a rich blue-green hue, the ashtray features a deeply textured surface with characteristic internal bubbles and applied dots, creating a tactile, almost organic quality. The gently undulating rim enhances its sculptural presence while maintaining functional balance.
Marinot pioneered the transformation of industrially produced glass into an expressive artistic medium. His works are represented in major museum collections worldwide and are highly sought after by collectors of Art Deco and studio glass.
