About the Item

Vintage Blenko glass ashtray, bowl, or dish features square form with lightly softened, flowing sides, creating an Organic Modern shape; it is done in dark amber colored glass with thick reflective sides and lightly textured inner and outer surfaces. The texture is exaggerated by a few bubbles inside the glass; the smooth, high-shine glass on the rim creates a variation in texture, adding visual interest to a monochromatic piece. The ashtray had lost its sticker, the only mark on the early Blenko glass; the form does not appear in catalogues from 1940s, but it can be easily identified in multiple veritable online sources. The glass color is referred to as Honey by Blenko Collectors; it was in production from 1937 - 1941, and then again from 1965 - 1968. The variations of this form appear in 1966 catalogue as rectangular, triangular, and romboid versions were available that year, but the square version was not listed. The elegant and decorative bowl or ashtray will make a great gift to an art glass collector or design enthusiast and will complement various interior styles, from Traditional to Mid Century Modern, Eclectic, Scandinavian Modern, Organic Modern, Japandi, Transitional, Modern Country, English Cottage, Grand Millennial, Glam, Maximalist, Collected, or Contemporary.
