About the Item

An advertising logo ashtray for Gitanes Cigarettes, made by Moulin des Loupes, Orchies, Northern France, dating to the Mid-Century Era, 1950-1970. This ashtray would have been used in the cafes, bistros, and brasseries of France to promote Gitanes, the popular, iconic French cigarette. Glazed in the rich Gitanes Blu, with raised lettering and logo in a bright white. Gitanes were launched in 1910, and they are known for their strong dark tobacco. Gitane means Gypsy Woman, and their distinctive packaging features the silhouette of a dancing female figure. Gitanes are a symbol of French national pride. Their logo is recognized globally. Circular with four indented cigarette rests. Marked: MDL for the faiencerie Moulin des Loups, and a mold or lot number. 5,5 inches round x .50 inches high. Excellent vintage condition, beautiful bold color.
