About the Item
A pair of floor-standing ashtrays, model C34, produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden, dating back to the 1950s–60s. These ashtrays feature a black metal frame with dome-shaped copper trays and can also be repurposed as sculptural planters for flowers or bowls for collecting small utensils.
Swedish industrial designer Hans-Agne Jakobsson, born on the island of Gotland in 1919, began his career as a carpenter's apprentice in his teenage years. After studying architecture, he worked as a designer for General Motors before establishing Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in 1951 in the quaint town of Markaryd. The company is best known today for its mid-century lighting fixtures, but it also produced small furniture and various other interior design objects. These two ashtrays exemplify Jakobsson's ability to merge craftsmanship with industrial production, resulting in minimalistic and timeless designs.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson
Hans-Agne Jakobsson was a Swedish interior and furniture designer, who ran his own company from 1951. Jakobsson was especially famous for his lighting designs, which often had a softly glowing light and organic shape. His designs were inspired by great, modern Scandinavian designers such as the Finnish icon Alvar Aalto and Danish lighting master Poul Henningsen.
