About the Item

Elegant Italian valet tray and ashtray in white porcelain with a black rim, crafted using a handmade mold that creates its distinctive flared shape—a form also used by renowned houses such as Hermès and Fabergé. After the first firing of the fine white porcelain, the refined black decoration of the stunning, famous, and unparalleled statue depicting David by Michelangelo Buonarroti was applied using the transferware technique. A black band was then hand-painted along the entire border, while the edging and interior corners were finished with 24K gold. The piece was finally coated with a clear glaze and fired again for a durable, lustrous finish. Transferware is a decorative method developed in Staffordshire, England, where artisans engraved designs onto copper plates, inked them, and transferred the image onto a special paper, which was then applied to porcelain pieces—plates, tureens, vases, and more. After glazing, the objects were kiln-fired. This process, with only minimal variations, is still used today. This valet tray/ashtray was produced in 2010 in a workshop in the province of Florence by a group of young artists who refer to themselves as “Artigiani Italiani.” Specializing in fine white porcelain decorated by hand using the transferware method, they create their own original motifs—animals, classical statues, abstract forms—executed with meticulous detail and precisely calibrated firings to ensure durability and impeccable quality. Classic in proportions yet refreshed with a modern touch, this piece showcases refined decorative elegance. It is a distinctive accessory, a thoughtful gift, and a sophisticated, exclusive addition to any interior. Dimensions: width 24 cm (9.45 in), depth 24 cm (9.45 in), height 6 cm (2.36 in). The piece is in excellent condition.
