Monumental Carved and Polished Rock Crystal Quartz Ashtray with Live Edge, circa 1960s Dimensions: 14" W x 13.5" D x 2.5" H Bowl Diameter: 6.5" Bowl Depth: 2.5" Base: 9.5" x 8" Weight: 32 lbs A truly exceptional decorative object, this massive carved and polished rock crystal quartz ashtray exemplifies midcentury fascination with organic materials and monumental forms. Hand-hewn from a single block of natural quartz, the piece retains its rugged, translucent “live edge” perimeter—evoking the raw beauty of uncut mineral—while the top surface and central bowl are smoothly polished to a glossy, light-catching finish. The center is deeply carved into a symmetrical concave form with beautifully concentric bands that radiate like topographic rings, showcasing the stone’s natural crystalline veining. At 32 pounds, this is a substantial and grounding object, equally suitable as a statement tabletop centerpiece, ceremonial bowl, or as originally intended—a luxury ashtray. The reverse is fitted with a green felted base inset into the carved underside for stability and protection of surfaces.
