Description:
This three-lobed ashtray exemplifies mid-20th-century promotional ceramics designed for the hospitality industry. Each lobe features a slanted, gilt-edged cigarette rest, framing the cream-glazed body that is printed on all three faces with the iconic "Martini" logo in black and red. The underside is stamped "MDL France" in green underglaze.
Interesting facts:
The stamp MDL / France likely refers to the French ceramics manufacturer Moulin des Loups in Orchies (Département Nord), which was active throughout the 20th century. While the attribution is not definitively documented, Moulin des Loups produced a wide range of ceramic household goods and promotional items for cafés, bars, and restaurants.
