Cendrier in Deep Red Glass by Carlo Scarpa circa 1942 for Venini
By Venini, Carlo Scarpa
Located in London, GB
Rare deep red cased and iridized glass, bowl complete with stubber (cendrier / ashtray), designed by Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978) circa 1942, for Venini, with acid stamp on its underside 'Venini Murano MADE IN ITALY' From 1933 to 1947 Scarpa became the artistic consultant to Venini from 1933 to 1947 the glass manufacturer, one of the great celebrated glass works in the history of design. Carlo Scarpa’s highly inventive use of traditional Murano techniques resulted in this original sculptural and sensually formed crimson dish companied by its pestle. Scarpa's success was to look to the past with an innovative approach towards technique and creativity giving birth to the avant-garde. • Literature A Focused Obsession, Modern Italian Glass- The Martin Cohen Collection Helmut Ricke, Eva Schmitt, 'Italian Glass Murano: Milan...

Midcentury Travertine Ashtray in the Style of Fratelli Mannelli, Italy, 1970s
By Fratelli Mannelli
Located in Roma, IT
Sculptural Ashtray attributable to the historic company Fratelli Mannelli, specialized in the processing of travertine. Known for its collaboration with the designer Enzo Mari, who designed a series of stylized travertine animals, this Manifcaturer has also produced many other furnishing elements such as ashtrays, coffee tables and lamps. The ashtray that we offer for design and material seems to be part of this vast production of this manufacturer. The ashtray has a classic quadrangular shape but the distinctive element that distinguishes it and makes it more similar to a sculpture than a simple ashtray is in the handmade carved elements. There is a small central basin that connects with those created to be able to place the cigarettes laterally, but above all the lines that intersect each other as in a sound sculpture by Pinuccio Sciola.

Rometti Ceramiche Umbria Italy Set of 4 Shell-Shaped Ceramic Ashtrays
By Rometti Ceramics 1
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. A lovely and refined set of four fine ceramic ashtrays in the shape of a shell; they were hand-molded, then fired in the kiln a first time, then on the white majolica the inner decoration was done with a delicate shaded blue color at this point the objects underwent a second firing, the outer part was then decorated and finally, the ashtrays were fired a third time to finally fix the colors thus creating four small works of art. The ashtrays were made between 1936 and 1938 by the firm Ceramiche Artistiche Rometti and bear the signature of the company itself on the bottom. Ceramiche Rometti...

Sculptural ashtray attributed to Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d Arte, 1970
By Albano Poli
Located in Conversano, IT
Refined sculptural ashtray attributed to Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d'Arte, made in Murano between the 1950s and 1960s, an impeccable example of the submerged glass technique that made the master famous. The work features a faceted body of great geometric purity, shaped from a single solid block of multi-layer glass: an internal core with intense amethyst shades emerges through a crystalline band in aquamarine tones, creating an extremely sophisticated luminous dialogue. The external surfaces, hand-ground with absolute precision, are articulated into inclined planes and diamond cuts that refract the light and transform the volume into a true optical sculpture. The hollowed interior reveals a soft cavity, perfectly smoothed, typical of Poli's poetics, in which transparency and color seem to merge into a single fluid mass. The contrast between the geometric rigor of the external faces and the roundness of the submerged core gives the work a visual balance of rare elegance, while the amethyst-aquamarine chromatic combination represents one of the most sought-after palettes of mid-century Seguso production. The object, of notable weight and crystalline quality, is an extraordinary example of Murano mastery in postwar artistic glass and constitutes an iconic piece for collectors and connoisseurs of Italian submerged glass. Product Name: Sculptural ashtray attributed to Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d'Arte, 1970 Designer: Attributed to Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d'Arte Year of Design: Between the 1950s and 1960s Style: Mid-century sculptural Murano design, characterized by rigorous geometries, layered transparencies, and strong research on light Main Materials: Solid block of multi-layer submerged glass with amethyst core and aquamarine crystalline band, entirely hand-ground Distinctive Design: Faceted body of great geometric purity; inclined planes and diamond cuts that refract light; soft and perfectly smoothed internal cavity; sophisticated contrast between external rigor and internal fluidity; iconic amethyst-aquamarine palette typical of mid-century Seguso Dimensions: Length 12.5 cm Width 12.5 cm Height 7 cm Comfort: Heavy, solid, and stable object with smooth and harmonious internal cavity Typical Use: Designer ashtray...

Refined sculptural ashtray attributed to Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d'Arte, made in Murano between the 1950s and 1960s, an impeccable example of the submerged glass technique that made the master famous. The work features a faceted body of great geometric purity, shaped from a single solid block of multi-layer glass: an internal core with intense amethyst shades emerges through a crystalline band in blue tones and then yellow, creating an extremely sophisticated luminous dialogue.
