About the Item

Extraordinary sculptural vide-poche or ashtray, model Roc, in crystal, made by Daum France in the 1980s, signed and complete with the original label. The work features a geometric and sculptural structure masterfully modeled in solid crystal, characterized by undulating volumes and sharp cuts that reflect and refract light with great purity. The surfaces alternate perfectly polished areas with satin-finished sections, creating a refined material contrast that enhances the depth and brilliance of the crystal. At the center of the composition is inserted a cobalt blue glass sphere, an iconic element of the Daum visual language, which introduces a vibrant focal point and adds visual tension to the dynamic form of the object. The balance between the linearity of the edges and the softness of the concave curves reveals the ability of the French manufactory to transform crystal into contemporary sculptural material. Signed Daum France on the side, the work represents a perfect example of the brand's artistic production in the 1980s, a period characterized by experimentation with architectural volumes and essential chromatic contrasts. Decorative object of great presence, ideal for collectors of artistic glass and for high-end modern interiors. Perfect condition. Absolutely no chips to the glass. Daum France is a historic French maison founded in 1878 in Nancy and considered one of the most prestigious artistic glass manufactories in the world. Initially celebrated for its Art Nouveau creations of the Nancy School, characterized by layered glass and naturalistic decorations, the manufactory has distinguished itself over time for its ability to evolve and innovate without losing its identity. Among its most important contributions is the rediscovery and refinement of pâte de verre, an ancient technique that allows glass to be modeled as sculptural material, achieving gradations, transparencies, and details impossible to obtain through simple blowing. From the 1970s and 1980s, the period in which the Roc model was produced, Daum developed a more contemporary and architectural language, with geometric volumes, contrasts between polished and satin-finished surfaces, and the use of intense chromatic elements such as colored glass spheres. Throughout its history, the maison has collaborated with internationally renowned artists, including Dalí, Arman, César, Lalanne, and others, further consolidating its status in the world of art and design. Daum works are today sought after by collectors for their quality of manufacture, aesthetic originality, and often limited and signed production. Each piece combines exceptional craftsmanship, technical innovation, and an immediately recognizable stylistic identity, making Daum one of the most iconic names in French artistic glass.
