Striking Art Deco Glass
Silver Decanter – Lightning Bolt
Chevron Design
This fabulous Art Deco decanter is a true statement piece, embodying the bold, geometric energy of the 1920s and 30s. The blown glass body is elegantly shaped with a three-sided form, featuring two divots on either side for an ergonomic grip. The glass retains the natural imperfections and bubbles from the hand-blowing process, along with a line within the glass, visible starting from the neck to 1.5" downward which appears to be a natural occurrence rather than a flaw.
The hand-applied silver ornamentation is nothing short of spectacular, featuring a dynamic mix of lightning bolts, chevrons, and asymmetrical striped patterns—all hallmarks of high Art Deco design. These motifs were heavily inspired by the period’s fascination with speed, electricity, and the Machine Age, reflecting a sense of power and forward motion that defined the era’s aesthetic. Lightning bolts and chevrons were widely used in architecture, fashion, and industrial design, symbolizing modernity and progress, making this decanter an iconic example of the style.
The stopper, molded to fit the bottle’s angular form, carries the same hand-applied silver finish, creating a cohesive look. The silver has aged to a darker patina, which enhances the piece’s vintage character but can be polished if the new owner desires a brighter shine. The stopper remains in good condition, with only a small 0.5" chip at the base, a common occurrence in antique bottle stoppers.
A piece like this is not only functional but highly collectible, as Art Deco barware and glassware featuring bold geometric ornamentation remains in high demand among collectors and design enthusiasts alike. Whether displayed as a sculptural object or used to serve in true Gatsby-era fashion, this decanter is a striking example of Art Deco craftsmanship and design history.
