About the Item

Crafted in England circa 1880, this elegant antique wine cooler exemplifies the refined craftsmanship of late-Victorian silver work. The sculptural piece features a remarkable trompe-l’œil basket-weave design rendered entirely in silver plate, giving the illusion of woven wicker. Both handles are shaped as twisting grapevines, adorned with clusters of grapes and scrolling leaves, an intricate nod to the artistry and symbolism of the vine in classical design. Signed on the underside George Richmond Collins, with various maker’s and registry marks, this finely modeled bucket reflects the sophistication and attention to naturalistic detail characteristic of English silver from the period. The cooler remains in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, showcasing a rich patinated metallic sheen that enhances its texture and depth.
