About the Item

Here is an attractive ice bucket by the Italian designer, Aldo Tura, This example is in a beautiful, rich, lacquered red parchment with brass trim, handle and lid. This piece is in good condition and presents well. The goatskin has very minor wear--same with the brass (the brass has recently been lightly polished). There appears to be a slight crack where the glass insert seals around the top--look closely at photos for details. However, it appears that it would still be water-tight. There is also some damage to the wood bottom--but this does not affect its function or visual appeal. The ice bucket retains its original TURA label. Measures 9" high with the handle raised and 6.5" high to the top of the lid's pull. It's 6.75" at its widest and 6.25" deep. About Aldo Tura: Aldo Tura was an Italian furniture designer best known for his mid-century tables, lamps, barware and decorative accessories. Combining his interest in Art Deco and Art Nouveau with low-slung minimalist design of the 1940s and 50s, he often utilized unusual materials like parchment, egg shell, and goatskin, frequently employing wheels and casters in his designs. Born in 1909, Tura began manufacturing his signature furniture in the 1930s, focusing on limited production of handcrafted designs produced within the confines of traditional craftsmanship. Turo died 1963, and has earned the moniker "the master of parchment" for his use of the material.

Aldo Tura Ice Bucket -- Red Goatskin Brass Square -- Mid Century Italian
By Aldo Tura
Located in Minneapolis, MN
Here is a very attractive mid-century ice bucket by Italian designer Aldo Tura. This model is in a beautiful red parchment with brass accents. Although the metal is brass, it has almost more of a warm silver tone--only pointing this out for accuracy--the pictures show the color fairly accurately. The glass liner is intact. There are some scratches to the parchment (the deepest is shown in a photo) and the brass has some roughness and minor pitting--mostly on the lid. None of these imperfections take away from the overall presentation of this unique piece. The ice bucket measures just over 11" high with the handle raised and 8.5" to the top of the lid's pull. At its widest, it measures 7.75". The goatskin cube...

1930s Napier Silver-Plate Cocktail Shaker Designed by Emil Schuelke
By Emil Schuelke
Located in Minneapolis, MN
Here is a hard-to-find modernist silver-plate cocktail shaker designer by Emil Schuelke in the mid-1930s and made by Napier Company of Meriden, Connecticut. The cone-shaped shaker consists of two pieces--the top can be used for measuring ingredients. This example is in good condition--there are no deep scratches or dents. There some silver losses on the body and top of the shaker and the inside strainer has loss as well. You can tell the shaker has been used--there is wear to the interior. We've included several photos which represent the condition well. But all in all, this shaker presents nicely and would make a great addition to any bar or cocktail shaker collection. From Wikipedia: "Napier silver designs from the first half of the 20th century are in museum collections including the Brooklyn Museum, Newark Museum and a substantial collection at the Dallas Museum of Art. Over the years, Napier silver has been featured in museum exhibitions, including Modernism in American Silver: 20th Century Design at the Smithsonian in Washington, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Wolfsonian in Miami Beach, the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, and the Dixon Gallery and Gardens in Memphis, TN (2005–07). Napier designs have also been included in two shows at the Brooklyn Museum, entitled 19th century Modern (2011–12; 2013–15). In November 2016-November 2017, the iconic Napier penguin cocktail shaker...
