About the Item

A magnificent, authentic, art nouveau champagne bucket from the famous French champagne maker Charles Heidsieck in Reims, founded in 1851. This rare model dates from the early 1900s. It is made in France for Charles Heidsieck by Argit SFOA (Société Française d'Orfèvrerie d'Art) a well known silversmith in Paris who worked with numerous famous champagne makers (see maker's stamp on the base). According to the stamps, this particular model is trademarked (modèle déposé). The body of the champagne bucket looks to be made of copper or a copper alloy (see inside) that has been gold plated. The plaque and the handles are made of pewter. The bucket has an embossed plaque with the Charles Heidsieck logo on one side. The handles have been moulded with wonderful grape-wine decorations. Since this particular model was trademarked, it can only be found with this antique Charles Heidsieck version. In fair antique condition. The bucket has purposely not been polished since some amateurs of antique barware and champagne memorabilia prefer to keep the original patina. If so wanted, the bucket can of course be polished. However, this is not an item for those who are looking for a flawless champagne bucket. The bottom edge has a few dents on the back side (see photos) which cause a minor instability. The surface shows signs of wear consistent with age (see photos), however the body has no major scratches or dents. Dimension: height 20 cm/ 8", width 20 cm/ 8", width with handles 24 cm/ 9 1/2".
