A magnificent, fine and impressive, large antique Victorian English sterling silver wine ewer; part of our wine and drinks related silverware collection. This magnificent antique Victorian English sterling silver wine ewer has an ovoid shaped form onto a plain circular stepped foot, in the traditional ewer style. The wasted neck is encircled with bright cut engraved scroll and stylized palmette ornamentation to the lower portion and an applied moulded border to the shaped incurved upper rim. The upper portion of the body is encircled with a simplified vertebrate band of palmette decoration above a narrow band of ribbed ornamentation. The broadest central band of ornamentation to the body is embellished with impressive bright cut engraved interlacing scrolling decoration accented with stylized leaf designs incorporating four shaped vacant cartouches. The lower portion of the body is encircled with alternating suspended simplified floral and pendant drop ornamentation below a band subdivided into triangle motifs each accented with a singular trefoil design. This magnificent silver wine ewer is fitted with an impressive chased decorated handle illustrating a wyvern style hybrid creature to the upper portion and a single scrolling leaf design to the lower portion, divided to the centre with a simple collar and lobed bead motif. This large wine ewer is an exceptional and very unusual example of its type. Condition This antique wine ewer is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The chased decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the neck are all very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of Victorian silverware. An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Victorian sterling silver water pitcher/jug; part of our antique dining silverware collection. This exceptional sterling silver water jug has a baluster shaped form onto a circular spreading foot. The waisted cylindrical neck of this silver jug is embellished with impressive stylised leaf motifs, segmented with opposing scroll designs. The lower swept portion of the neck is encompassed with the contemporary engraved inscription 'To Charles Edward Rawlins, junior honorary secretary to the Liverpool Anti Monopoly Association anno domini MDCCCXLII to MDCCCXLVII'; these Roman numerals convert to the Latin dates 1842 and 1847. The bulbous portion of the body is embellished with exceptional engraved scene depicting a female figure draped in flowing fabric being carried by a male character; this male could be associated to Hermes, the Greek Olympian deity and the herald of the gods. The other side of this exceptional jug is further embellished with a main, central female being adorned and clothed by three semiclad figures. The body of this exceptional example of antique silverware is further ornamented with two large scrolling palmette style designs, all on a matte background. The lower portion of the jug is encompassed with an interlacing scalloped style pendant bud design. The neck is embellished to the upper portion with impressive gadroon decoration to the shaped rim. The jug is fitted with an exceptional hinged hallmarked cover, surmounted with an impressive cast leaf decorated thumbpiece, accented with further scrolling decoration to the domed portion. This antique silver jug is fitted with an impressive elevated loop style handle ornamented with an exceptional cast and applied figural mark design to the lower terminal. This exceptional jug was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Edward, John & William Barnard. Condition This antique English silver water jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast and applied decoration is very sharp and the engraved decoration is very crisp. Full English hallmarks struck to the neck of the jug are all very clear. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian glass and silver mounted claret jug; part of our silver mounted glass collection. This exceptional antique Victorian glass and sterling silver and glass claret jug has a circular rounded form onto a circular spreading foot. The upper portion of the glass body is fitted with the original hallmarked sterling silver mount embellished with an incurved shaped border. The plain domed hallmarked hinged cover is encircled with a band of applied bead decoration and surmounted with an impressive swept, knopped bead decorated finial. This Victorian claret jug is fitted with an S-scroll handle featuring a plain scrolling thumb piece. The glass body of the jug is embellished with an exceptional acid etched illustration depicting a putto entangled with flowing ribbons, playing a stylized percussion triangle whilst standing on the back of a moth style insect. In art and culture, a putto (plural: putti) is a chubby male child, usually nude and occasionally bearing wings. Condition The mount of this antique silver and glass claret jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The mount has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The plain glass body of the jug is in perfect condition.
