About the Item
Rare 1920s Art Deco period cocktail shaker by Einar Dragsted (1887-1967) Danish Silversmiths in pewter with handle, spout and removable top. This hand wrought and hand hammered shakers has a warm patina to its pewter, with incised vertical lines, horizontal ornamental design in low relief. Wonderful hammering throughout the body and handle. The form of the body reminds me of an earlier designs of the Arts
Crafts of Grueby Pottery.
Stamped with early mark to the bottom. Slight indent to top, due to someone over tightening the cork, can be reversed. Great addition to your bar, or cocktail shaker collection.
Founded by Einar Dragsted, know as E D / E. Dragsted Copenhagen, Denmark the company which started as a spin off from Arendt Dragsted in 1923, with company name E. Dragsted with Einar as sole proprietor. His grandfather, Arent Dragsted (1821-1898), was himself a royal court jeweler
goldsmith having founded his original eponymous silverware factory in 1884. Although silverware was mainly produced, pewterware was a significant part of the production in the mid 1920s, and from 1935 on the company also became known for its art-industrial bronze goods. Mainly know for silverware, he started with pewter in the mid 1920s. Einar Dragsted was a purveyor to the Royal Danish Court, was one of a hundred "purveyors to the Danish Crown" (the equivalence of holding a Royal Warrant in the UK). Einar's designs were unique for the times in which they were produced, and he gained wide notoriety as a highly skilled silversmith. Today his tableware and jewelry are still admired by a wide range of collectors whose tastes range from Traditional to Art Deco to Danish Modern. Kay Bojesen was an early designer for Einar Dragsted.
