About the Item

A pair of antique French ceramic match strikers advertising Cassis Quenot, the famed Dijon-based liqueur producer awarded the Médaille d’Or at the 1889 Paris Exposition. These classic “allumettes” feature a porcelain base with bold red and black typography and a textured bisque upper section designed for striking. Both strikers retain their wonderful original graphics, reading “Quenot – Seul Fabricant – Dijon” and “Cassis Quenot – Médaille d’Or Paris 1889 – Turin 1902.” The bisque surfaces show attractive, authentic patina from use, giving them the warm character collectors love. Undersides show the traditional central pigment circle typical of period French strikers. Perfect as a bar accessory, tabletop accent, or addition to a collection of French advertising ceramics. These pieces have become increasingly collectible and are prized for their sculptural form and graphic appeal.
