Elegant 1980s Italian Modern Pewter Ice Bucket by Mauro Manetti
This handsome ice bucket is a fine example of modern Italian metalware, crafted from high-quality pewter by the manufacturer marked M. M. and Made in Italy. While pewter often evokes antique designs, this piece is styled with a sleek, contemporary aesthetic that dates it to the 1980s.
The piece features a striking, bold design characterized by an exterior surface that is heavily textured with a uniform, repeating pattern of overlapping scales (sometimes called fish scale texture). This tactile pattern gives the metal a unique, almost sculptural quality. The lid lifts off via a discreet, smoothly integrated knob handle. The interior has been made to ensuring ice stays frozen longer.
Mauro Manetti used the M/M mark for his designs, particularly in the 1960s and 70s, this ice bucket follows in that tradition but with a simplified, Postmodern form.
