About the Item
This is a fantastic and hard-to-find drinks set: a group of Gucci-style silver plated hunting themed stirrup cups on a hunting themed silver plated tray, made in Italy in the 1970s.
The tray is delightful, with animal motifs running around its edge. There are two wild boar, two grouse, and two rabbits, all cast in relief so that they sit proud of the tray’s surface and arranged in a charming fashion as if they were chasing each other, reminiscent of naive folk art.
Sitting on the tray are a set of six hunting themed stirrup cups in a design popularised by Gucci in the 1970s. Each stirrup cup has a unique animal head. The group comprises a stag, a wild boar, a rabbit, a hunting hound, a horse, and a fox, all beautifully modelled. The heads and cups are all silver plated, with some light scratches and light tarnishing in places but in nice condition. Like all stirrup cups, they can sit either way up – please see images.
It is a delightful, playful drinks set. The size below includes maximum dimensions, the stag’s head being the tallest of the stirrup cups.
