About the Item

A set of eight pure linen cocktail napkins, by artist and designer Georges Briard (1917–2005) — a name that has for more than a century been a marker of spectacular and stylish vintage glassware, serveware and other household objects from the Mid-Century Era. In the original box, unreleased old stock from the 1960s, a design titled, Ambrosia – Nectar of the Gods. A graphic pattern showing a pineapple in a fruit bowl surrounded by a lemon slice, strawberry, and leaves colored in black and gold on a pale pink ground. The central image is bordered on two sides by a wide geometric border also in gold and black. Machine stitched hems. The title of the pattern is written in script across the bottom of each napkin. Each napkin shows the Briard signature. Georges Briard created award-winning designs for items including glasses, trays, coffeepots and dishes in materials like glass, ceramics, metal, wood, and gold-plated serveware. His serveware was especially popular from the 1950s to ’70s. It was produced by companies including Culver, Pfaltzgraff and Mdina Glass and sold at high-end department stores like Neiman Marcus and Bonwit Teller. Georges Briard’s designs were found in the homes of the most fashionable hosts of the mid-century. Today, they are highly prized by collectors. Napkins: 7.25 in. L x 5.5 in. W Box: 7.75 in. L x 6 in.
