An Art Deco chromium silver metal, enamel, and and bakelite cocktail shaker with four cocktail cups designed by Howard F. Reichenbach (1901–1959) in 1933 as the Prohibition Era in America came to a close. The stylish Streamlined Moderne cocktail set would look right at home aboard a period luxury ocean liner filled with thirsty passengers. The "Gaiety" set from Chase Brass Copper Co. of Waterbury, Connecticut (founded 1837) consists of a substantial, cylindrical cocktail shaker in silver metal with contrasting bands of black enamel and a bakelite accent at the base of the finial, accompanied by four cocktail cups. All pieces remain in their original boxes and the shaker retains its original strainer insert. Reichenbach submitted a patent application for his design on 6 October 1933, receiving approval on 7 August 1934. (Please view all images to see the original patent drawings from the application) All pieces remain in very good condition, clean inside and out with just a few very tiny scuffs and minor scratches in keeping with age. Assembled, the three-piece shaker measures 11.75 in. height; the cups 2 in. height x 3 in. diameter. Each piece is stamped with the company's centaur trademark over CHASE / USA on the base. The boxes have original Chase foil stickers and labels but reflect their age with yellowing and other discoloration, scuffs, and separations at several edges and seams.
