About the Item

Mappin Webb Wine or Champagne Pourer, Imprinted "Club Bottle Holder," c1880. It features an extendable tube handle that leads down to a circular gallery. Mappin Webb was founded in 1774 by Jonathan Mappin. Today Mappin Webb is still one of the UK's leading retailers of fine jewelry and silverware. Its first workshop was in Sheffield in 1774 and the following year the Mappin mark was entered at the assay office. Over the next fifteen years Jonathan Mappin's reputation for producing high quality silver spread throughout England. The first store opened in London in 1849 and was soon followed by stores in Moorgate and King William Street. In 1858, following rapid expansion of the Sheffield factory, John Mappin invited his brother-in-law, George Webb to join him in the business. This was the beginning of the Mappin Webb name. The plate is original. Trent Antiques has been a respected name in antiques for over 30 years with a large collection of period furniture, art, books, jewelry and decorative accessories.
