About the Item
Pair of Bicentennial-era sterling silver Jefferson cups. Made by Stieff in Baltimore, ca 1974. Each: Curved form with flat and stable bottom. The traditional form attributed to Thomas Jefferson. In original leather-bound case with fitted velvet decorated with red, white, and blue bands. Hinged covers have silk lining gilt-stamped with maker’s stamp and profiles of Jefferson and his wife Martha, who died during the Revolution in 1781, two years after her husband was elected governor of Virginia. Fully marked including maker’s stamp, pattern number and date code 0709/16, and phrase “Jefferson Cup”.
Dimensions: H 2 1/4 x D 3 1/4 in. Case: H 4 1/2 x W 11 x D 7 1/2 in. Total weight (silver only): 9 troy ounces.
