About the Item

Japanese sterling silver decanter set. Made by Tiffany Co. in New York. Oval bowl with tapering sides and rectilinear handle mounted to two rings. Sides have scrolled wire and paterae rondels and open work with cast perched birds. Splayed foot. Cast rims with leaves and lunette suns, and zigzag band between beading. A rare hollowware piece in the historic pattern designed by Edward C. Moore for flatware that was first produced in 1871. It is characterized by stylized low-relief birds amidst flowers and reeds. Here the birds have come to life with flapping wings and gripping talons. Union Square mark (1870-5) with Tiffany and Moore stamps, and pre-1875 pattern no. 3371. Very good condition. Overall dimensions: H 9 7/8 x W 10 3/8 x D 7 5/8 in. Weight (silver only): 22 troy ounces. With: Two American brilliant-cut glass decanters. Each: Straight-sides with allover diaper; faceted shoulder, neck, and mouth. Bellied ball stopper with same. Stars on cover top and bottle underside. Dimensions: H 6 3/4 x D 3 1/4 in.
