About the Item
Set of 12 Barbour for International Sterling, sterling silver goblets, adorned with garland-like motifs showcasing urns and stylized natural motifs, from the early 20th century, on a matching tray. The goblets measure 6 1/4'' in height by 3'' in diameter at the top, weigh 50 troy ounces, and bears hallmarks and a monogram as shown. Organized in 1892 in Hartford, Connecticut, Barbour was the product of a consolidation of I. J. Steane
Co., Barbour Hobson Co., and Barbour Bros. Co. Barbour made sterling hollowware. In 1898, it was one of the founding companies of International Sterling.
The International Silver Company was formed in 1898 by various independent New England silversmiths that, between 1898 and 1903, joined themselves together to form a company that became the world's largest manufacturer of silverware. The International Silver Co. was organized with an authorized capital of $20,000,000.
