About the Item

Royal House Antiques Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this absolutely exquisite, highly collectable Viscount David Linley Gentleman's Shooting Compendium with Edinburgh made Sterling silver finishing touches The LINLEY Gentleman's Shooting Companion in oiled walnut is a portable miniature drinks carrier designed for taking on a shoot, it sports sturdy leather handles on either side for easy transportation and bears a sterling silver engravable plaque on the lid for personalization. The corners are protected by nickel brackets. On releasing the nickel silver clasp of the box and opening it, a neatly packed interior is revealed. A walnut rack is stowed within, housing eight pewter cups. This can be removed to distribute the cups, which are conveniently engraved with the numbers one to eight referencing the guns pegs or places in the lineåt the start of the day. Also contained within are two lead crystal, etched decanters with engravable silver hallmarked plaques set in rosewood for sloe gin, brandy or any other spirits taken to enhance the day. And finally a walnut compartment to hold 8 cigars with an inbuilt cigar cutter. These sit compactly between the decanters and the pewter cups, the finishing touch to a sporting ensemble. David Linley founded his eponymous business in 1985 with the aim of designing and manufacturing furniture of the highest quality. Over the years he has worked closely with Linley designers and craftsmen to ensure that each piece has those quintessentially British characteristics of inventiveness, meticulous attention to detail, ingenuity, creative spirit, eccentricity, sophistication, wit and charm. The sterling silver plaques on the top of the Decanters and the case are Edinburgh made, I have never in all my years of collecting came across Edinburgh silver before There is one more of these sets currently listed for sale which has some engraved sections, that piece is being offered for a cool £40,000 gbp The condition is pretty much perfect, the only small sign of use I can see are on one or two of the pewter cups with have some small knocks, otherwise the set looks basically new Dimensions of the case Height:- 26.5cm Width:- 40cm Depth: 21cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements, please ask. Any questions please feel free to ask before you bid. Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.

Important Sterling Silver Guilloche Enamel Cocktail Shaker by David Andersen
By David Andersen
Located in Bath, GB
Not a cocktail shaker, a work of art by master Norwegian goldsmith's, David Andersen; certainly a rare and important piece of holloware for the David Andersen devotee or advanced barware collector. We have never seen a cocktail shaker by this artist or any cocktail shaker covered in guilloche enamel; it could possibly have been commissioned piece dating to the 1950's. The shaker is made from solid sterling silver and is fully marked on the underside and signed by David Andersen, Norway. The elegant modernist shape is engine turned and in turn showcased by the glossy golden yellow enamel, all without damage. The lid once removed acts as a cup. Museum quality in superb condition measuring approximately 4" max. in diameter x 9" tall. David Andersen The David Andersen company is a fourth generation family owned business. David Andersen (1843 -1901) was the son of a Norwegian tenant farmer. At 19 he became an apprentice to a Silversmith in Oslo where he studied enamelling technique. These were incorporated into designs made for English firms in London. During 1876, Andersen opened his own goldsmith workshop in Christiania (Oslo.) He became one of Norway's most renowned and celebrated silversmiths. In 1899 his firm had 121 employees, 29 of which were women. By the time of his death in 1901 his Oslo workshop was producing flatware, holloware, and jewellery which was exhibited at International Expos in Europe. Since the 1920s many fine contemporary designers have worked for the David Andersen firm. including the modernist designer Harry Sorby...
