About the Item
William Summers, English sterling silver tankard from 1899, in an elegant, geometric design. It measures 6 1/8'' in height by 5 3/4'' in depth by 3 7/8'' in diameter at the base, weighs 17.8 troy ounces, and bears hallmarks as shown.
William Summers was a London silversmith active since 1826. He collaborated with Edward Rawlings for several decades. Summers acquired a strong reputation as a maker of good quality snuff boxes, wine labels and other small items. Some of his pieces are in the permanent collection of the prestigious Victoria and Albert Museum.
