About the Item
A set of eleven emerald green depression era glass bowls, made by Anchor Hocking for their Inspiration collection, circa 1940. One large and 10 small bowls are decorated with outward radiating lines and raised bumps reminiscent of sea urchin shells. Each bowl is balanced on three feet. Large bowl measures 8.5"W x 8.5"D x 3"H, smaller bowls measure 4.5"W x 4.5"D x 1.75"H.
Anchor Hocking’s premium line of glassware, the Inspiration collection, was produced only in emerald green and sold in department stores. It was given the nickname “burple” by Hazel Marie Weatherman, who wrote a book about Depression-era glass in the 1970’s. She called the design of bubbles around the edges of the glass “boopie” and nicknamed the collection “burple”.
