About the Item

A painterly passata bowl from the Puglia region of Italy, 19th century. The large terracotta bowl features a glaze in spongeware effect of bright green over a buttery yellow slip on the inside and is animated by dark green patches on the exterior. This vessel would have been used in peak tomato season to make fresh sauce in large quantities. In charming antique condition, a conversation piece to display or use for light duty storage.
