About the Item

Lovely and completely original fine quality squirrel themed silver plated figural Victorian circular nut bowl; a squirrel eating a nut is mounted on a realistic looking silver plated branch, spanning the edge of the bowl; there is a semi-circular fleur d' lis scalloped petal leaf pattern around the entire circumference. The bowl rests on four pedestal, floral embossed and raised, triangular feet. A mark is not discernible, but the bowl appears in several late 19th century catalogues such as Pairpoint (Massachusetts) and Van Bergh (Rochester, N.Y.) so more than likely manufactured by a northeastern silver and silver plate manufacturer. The squirrel is cast in great detail and looks ready to pounce on any additional nuts placed in the bowl. The bowl is in very good condition with absolutely no repairs , replacements, or restorations of any kind. The silver plate maintains almost all of it's finish and has mellowed to a wonderful and aesthetically pleasing patina. Dimensions: 8" circular diameter x 6 3/4" high (top of squirrel) 4 1/2" top of edge of bowl Provenance: From my own 35 year collection of Victorian figural Napkin rings and related figural items; having acquired this bowl in 1995. Note: I am a second generation antiques dealer and have been in business, buying, selling, and collecting, for 50 years; I am also a member of several prestigious antique associations. Thus, I am well qualified to inspect and evaluate the products I offer for sale and I guarantee this to be authentic and as I have described.
