French Butcher Block Simply the “Pièce de Resistance” of French Chopping Blocks

“Pièce de resistance” best explains just how good this Antique French Butcher Block really is. There many antique French Butcher Blocks floating around the market-place, however, you would have to look far and wide to find an antique French Butcher Block of this magnitude. Our Old Plank restoration department spent over 360-man hours of labor carefully and painstakingly completely disassembling the entire Antique Butcher Block, without disturbing the 100-year-old patina. From the original cast iron Steer Heads, to the Cutting Block, it is extremely unusual to find any Antique Butcher Block as complete and original as this one. The cutting surface was professionally cleaned with vinegar and coated the food grade mineral oil. All of the cast iron components were left original and not refinished as was the wood. In years past, we have installed cook tops in the middle of the chopping blocks and flanked on one side with marble. Options and use are virtually endless, but there is no better way to finish off a Country French Kitchen, than a spectacular Butcher Block. Little history; Butcher Blocks date back to the late 1800’s and in 1887 in Effingham, Illinois Conrad Boos developed his first Butcher Block for a local blacksmith. Conrad’s son John saw a business opportunity and began building Block Tables for the local Butchers. Boos sent their Butcher Blocks to the 1900 World’s Fair in Paris and introduced Europe to their Butcher Blocks. We have been selling Antique Butcher Blocks for over 30-years and cannot ever remember having a better example, for this is as good as it gets. Sorry, accessories (knives) are just props and are not included.

Refinished. Repaired: Completely disassembled and restored from the bottom up, although the finish on the frame was left untouched. Over 360 hours of labor in the restoration. Wear consistent with age and use.
