About the Item

Crafted in France circa 1960, the “Billot” is made of solid beechwood and features a beautifully aged, lightly stripped finish that highlights the natural grain and patina of the wood. A polished white marble top with delicate veining provides a clean, elegant surface, ideal for use as a kitchen island, pastry table, or serving station. The standout detail is the cast iron agricultural plaque mounted on the shaped backsplash. Painted in bright blue with raised gilt lettering, the plaque commemorates a First Prize awarded in 1878 at the Comice Agricole in Ambrières-Lassay, specifically for “Pouliches 2 ans” (two-year-old fillies). This unique historic touch adds character and provenance, making the piece not only functional but also a conversation starter. The billot is reinforced with iron corner brackets and includes one center drawer for storage along with a lower shelf for added utility. Carved and fluted legs add a subtle decorative note, blending rustic function with traditional French craftsmanship.
