About the Item
An antique mid-19th century Bohemian cut-to-clear glass and silver surtout-de-table (also known as an épergne or centerpiece), circa 1850. The two-tier composition is raised on four shell-shaped feet and fitted with two cut-to-clear glass bowls enhanced with gilt decoration.
The silver mounts bear an Austro-Hungarian hallmark “13,” indicating a silver purity of 13 lots (812/1000), along with an unidentified maker’s mark “F.” The base is weighted with plaster.
The centerpiece is of modular construction and disassembles into five components, including the two glass tiers. Condition notes include areas of gilding loss to the interior of the glass bowls, as well as surface scratches and minor dents to the silver, all consistent with age and use.
