About the Item

American Midcentury Classical sterling silver centerpiece. Three joined large scallop shells with twisted fluting and curvilinear rims; three small scallop shell supports. Perched on centrally mounted roiling wave is mermaid figure—long tressed and full bosomed with arm resting on scaly tail. A modern representation of the mythical creature suggestive of a come-hither Vargas pinup. Marks include unidentified maker’s stamp. Weight: 61 troy ounces.
