About the Item

Two early 19th century rare polychrome Dutch Delft portrait chargers / bowls glazed with images in manganese (Delft purple), yellow, red, and blue. One depicts William I aka Willem Frederick, King of the Netherlands from 1815-1840, dressed in military uniform surrounded by a border of leaves and swirling vines. Based on portraits such as those by Evert Maaskamp or Hendrik Willem Caspari. The other shows his consort, Wilhelmine of Prussia aka Whilelmina Frederica Louisa, Queen of the Netherlands, surrounded by a border of tulips. Appears to be based on an 1815 portrait by Friedrich Bury. Both marked on reverse with initials PK. Circa 1800-1820s. Previous seller presumed the portraits to be Louis Napoleon - brother of Napoleon Bonaparte, King of Holland from 1795-1805 - and his wife Hortense. Dimensions: 13.75" x 2.5" (Diameter x Height)
