About the Item
A Superb and Wonderful French 19th Century Louis XVI Ormolu and Malachite Centerpiece. The centerpiece is raised on a rectangular malachite base showcasing the beautiful natural green stone color. Above is a most gorgeous and beautifully executed ormolu cherub standing in the front of a gondola or boat with an oar in his hands. The boat is seemingly splashing through waves with a lovely Vitruvian scroll design extending along each side and with a most impressive richly chased open winged swan at the front. This is truly a masterpiece with gorgeous gilding, hand-chase work as well as a sweet and very beautiful subject of a cherub rowing a boat with a large swan centered in the front. Signed by the artist in the ormolu.
