About the Item

An impressive and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu and Rouge Griotte marble centerpiece. The centerpiece is raised by an elegant rectangular base with concave corners and a fine bottom ormolu band. At the center is the striking ormolu support with a richly chased mask of a beaded man flanked by most decorative swaging berried laurel garlands. The oblong Rouge Griotte marble bowl displays a superb mottled design with remarkable scrolled foliate handles on each side with superb acanthus leaves and rosettes with powerful richly chased lion heads at each side. Above is a lovely Les Oves designed mottled ormolu band at the rim with a removable fitted insert.
