About the Item

This exquisite antique French Louis XVI style gilt bronze and cobalt blue glass centerpiece is raised by a shaped gilt bronze pedestal base adorned with finely chased foliate scrolls, a central cartouche, and fluted accents. Rising from the base is a vertical stem with a stepped foot, supporting the deep cobalt blue glass bowl with its elegantly rounded form and smooth, luminous surface. The bowl is secured within a finely cast gilt bronze frame encircling the rim, decorated with a continuous beaded border and a central ribbon-tied garland reserve. The upper rim issues a pair of large open-scroll handles, each enriched with delicate floral and foliate motifs. The bold contrast between the rich blue of the glass and the bright ormolu mount creates a striking visual harmony, while the symmetrical balance and classical proportions are characteristic of the Louis XVI aesthetic. The gilt bronze frame is further adorned with applied rosettes and curling leaf embellishments extending down the sides of the bowl.
