French porcelain and silver centrepiece suite by Tétard and Samson
French, early 20th Century
Tray: Height 3.5cm, width 117cm, depth 43cm
Central comport: Height 35.5cm, width 23cm, depth 17cm
This very fine centrepiece surtout is crafted from silver and porcelain. The surtout is comprised of three sections, with each section featuring a silver frame and a mirrored surface. The central oval section is centred with a comport featuring a silver bowl and a porcelain stem modelled as a rocky outcrop covered with leafy vines and putti. Four porcelain groups surround the central comport, each modelled as a figure seated on a plinth, and each emblematic of one of the four seasons. The two flanking lobe-shaped sections are centred with candelabra, with each candelabrum issuing four scrolled silver lights from a flower encrusted porcelain plinth base.
The porcelain is marked for Samson, and the silver is fully hallmarked for Tétard Frères.
