About the Item

Charming hard-paste porcelain figurine depicting a classical ballet dancer in a raised-arm pose. Made in Thuringia (central Germany), most likely by the Sitzendorf factory, renowned for its "Dresden-style" figurines. The skirt is made using the porcelain lace technique: real lace impregnated with slip and then fired, creating a finely openwork tutu, enhanced with gold like the circular base. The style of the piece allows for a date to the 1920s, a time when classical ballet was enjoying a renewed enthusiasm in Europe. Sitzendorf, founded in 1760 and directed from 1884 by Alfred and Carl Wilhelm Voigt, extensively developed this type of figurine (dancers, young musicians) with lace skirts and white bases adorned with gold threads.
