An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Russian silver polychrome cloisonné enamel egg; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection This exceptional antique Russian silver gilt box has an ovoid egg shaped form onto three figural bust style feet. The surface of this box is embellished with fine and impressive cloisonné scrolling foliate and floral designs using various tones of blue, red and white sections of polychrome enamel, all on a matte gilded background. The lower portion of the enamel egg incorporates six circular cartouche, each displaying a double-headed Imperial Eagle displayed, twice imperially crowned, grasping in the dexter claw an imperial sceptre, and in the sinister claw an imperial orb. Each Imperial Eagle is charged with a shield shaped escutcheon displaying two alternating armorial bearings; one illustration has been determined to be an iconic Russian image of St. George Martyr the Victorious riding a horse in full gallop with a a dragon crawling to the base whose head the rider is piercing through with a spear.
