About the Item
I am offering for sale a Pedestal Bowl handcrafted in Italy probably during the mid-20th century.
The style of this footed fruit bowl is typical of the Folk Art of the mountainous areas of Italy that make tableware items by carving and turning pieces of solid fir wood
Characterized by an essential and rustic design, these items are handcrafted making each piece unique, different from each other.
The characteristic of this Mountain Folk Art is in the partial conservation of the bark of the tree in the creation of the object.
As in the "unfinished" sculptural technique used by Michelangelo, a part of the block of wood used to extract the object remains, as it was originally in nature, with its bark.
The result they obtain is very interesting, material textures and sculptural forms extrapolated from what nature offers us.
Works of folk art are difficult to date, as they continue to be produced in the same style today by the few remaining artisans; the one we are offering you, for the color and patina of the wood, can be dated back to the mid-20th century.
Our trusted restorer cleaned it thoroughly and polished it with a specific product that protected the surface.

Italian Handcrafted Mid Century Modern Decorative Dish in Raku Style Ceramic
Located in Roma, IT
Large handcrafted ceramic centerpiece dating back to the 1970s.
Of certain Italian production but of unknown manufacture, this large plate shows a signature engraved on the base consisting of two intertwined letters "FS" that we have not been able to attribute to a ceramist or a manufacturer. the design of this centerpiece is essential, with an almost primitive shape that appears as a large bowl with low edges.
The surface is rough and textured on the outside and very smooth with a crackle effect on the inside recalling Japanese Raku ceramics...

Midcentury Travertine Ashtray in the Style of Fratelli Mannelli, Italy, 1970s
By Fratelli Mannelli
Located in Roma, IT
Sculptural Ashtray attributable to the historic company Fratelli Mannelli, specialized in the processing of travertine.
Known for its collaboration with the designer Enzo Mari, who designed a series of stylized travertine animals, this Manifcaturer has also produced many other furnishing elements such as ashtrays, coffee tables and lamps.
The ashtray that we offer for design and material seems to be part of this vast production of this manufacturer.
The ashtray has a classic quadrangular shape but the distinctive element that distinguishes it and makes it more similar to a sculpture than a simple ashtray is in the handmade carved elements.
There is a small central basin that connects with those created to be able to place the cigarettes laterally, but above all the lines that intersect each other as in a sound sculpture by Pinuccio Sciola.
