Hand-blown and hand-cut crystal centerpiece

An exceptional sculptural centerpiece titled “Yu-Shuang”, designed by Kazuhiko Tomita for Arcade Murano in 1993. This rare and exquisite work is crafted from three layers of glass—crystal, white, and crystal— expertly hand-blown and hand-cut, then frosted in an acid pool to achieve its ethereal matte surface and delicate translucency.
The organic, asymmetrical form captures a perfect balance between motion and stillness, typical of Tomita’s poetic approach to glass design. The soft interplay of light across the layered crystal surface reveals both precision and serenity, evoking a sense of quiet refinement and timeless elegance.
About the Designer
Kazuhiko Tomita (b. 1958, Japan) is an acclaimed designer celebrated for his minimalist yet deeply expressive creations that bridge Japanese aesthetics and Italian craftsmanship. After studying in Japan, Tomita moved to Milan in the 1980s, where he collaborated with leading Italian glassmakers and design houses. His works often explore the tension between form and emptiness, transparency and opacity.

Arcade Murano, founded on the island of Murano, Venice, is known for its experimental and highly refined glassmaking, combining traditional Murano techniques with avant-garde design. During the 1990s, Arcade collaborated with international designers such as Tomita to create sculptural limited-edition works that pushed the boundaries of contemporary glass art.
This “Yu-Shuang” centerpiece stands as a striking example of cross-cultural artistry—an ideal acquisition for collectors of postmodern design and fine Italian glass.
It will be shipped overseas insured in a custom made wooden crate. Cost o f transport to the US, Euro 245, is crate included.
