About the Item
Pharmacy albarello made of majolica, with a particular spool shape. The predominant glaze of the ceramic is white, on which there are decorations in blue and yellow. These decorations mainly consist of phytomorphic motifs, depicting stylized flowers, leaves and branches. At the center of the object there is an epigraphic cartouche, which presents an inscription written in naturalistic calligraphy, made in manganese. The inscription reads "A D MA(I) MO(IP)," which is related to the internal contents of the albarello, which in this case is water of a certain type. In fact, the albarelli were used to contain ointments or medical solutions by apothecaries and pharmacists. The object dates back to the 18th century and was made in Faenza, a famous Italian town known for the production of ceramics. This albarello therefore represents a testimony of the historical period and the ceramic art of that era. Good state of conservation.
