About the Item

Striking West German ceramic floor vase from the golden age of European art pottery. Produced during the 1960s, this extra large vessel exemplifies the experimental spirit of post-war German ceramics, featuring bold horizontal bands of mustard yellow adorned w/ relief daisy motifs alternating with richly textured dark brown volcanic zones. The piece retains its original manufacturer's mark '660 40' on the underside. Substantial cylindrical form showcases the distinctive layered aesthetic characteristic of West German production, with rope-twist borders framing decorative floral bands. The volcanic textured glaze creates dramatic contrast against smooth, glossy yellow sections, demonstrating the technical mastery and creative exploration that defined this era of ceramic artmaking. Heavy, quality construction befits a true floor vase. Condition consistent with age and use, with surface wear adding authentic character to this collectable piece. Over 100 manufacturers flourished during this period, producing distinctive styles ranging from traditional Mid-Century forms to Fat Lava and engobe techniques.
